Money money money
Ever wondered how much moolah the Williams sisters have smashed their way to? Serena’s got USD$15,874,887, while older sis, Venus, USD$16,012,656.
You’d think that those two would be at the top of the list, but you couldn’t be more wrong. Comeback queen Martina Hingis’s total earnings is a flashier USD$18,358,600.
World #2 Kim Clijsters, who's due for an OZ Open quarter-final berth against Hingis, has made herself USD$12,901,245 rich, while my vote for female OZ Open champ Justine Henin-Hardenne has a total of USD$9,464,009.
Henin-Hardenne will be facing off (QF) against the big kahuna of women’s tennis (in both rankings and earnings), Lindsay Davenport, who's total winnigs of USD$21,379,465 is more than that of Roger Federer's!
World #1 male tennis player Federer, the conquerer of oh-so-many tourneys, has collected a cool USD$20,374,573 in prize money. I have a feeling, however, that this figure's gonna rise soon enough as although I'd like to see new hands lifting the trophy, it's highly unlikely it's gonna be those of anyone else's besides FedEx's.
Now, here's the 411 on the millions made by other current tennis bigshots: Lleyton Hewitt collected USD$15,981,107, Marat Safin USD$12,206,048, Juan Carlos Ferrero USD$10,243,728, and Andy Roddick USD$9,545,516.
The champion of champs? My all-time fave Andre Agassi, who's got a whopping USD$30,996,275. Granted, he's been around forever, but hey, it ain't easy to keep winning—especially not against much younger hence fitter opponents. Agassi is the epitome of a golden oldie, indeed.
Anyway, whoever said there’s no money in sports?
